About THE CHURCH OF TANGO: a Memoir

Death, Dance, Destiny

Available worldwide in paperback, for the kindle and all forms of ebooks.

The Church of Tango is a passionate memoir full of tragedy and adventure, lust and music, faith and perseverance, romance and tango.

More than a metaphor, and much more than a dance, Tango takes me from being a widow with suicidal tendencies to travelling the world in search of myself, finding sex and sorrow and serenity. My quest takes me to France where I fall in love with aristocratic Olivier, and to Argentina where I fall in love with Tango. I zigzag between Los Angeles and Cuba, Argentina, Italy, Holland, France and Spain looking for the dancers' high as well as love. Along the way I deal with my own health issues and the loss of all that I'd previously valued. Relationships in the desperate singles world is a whole new dance to learn, before being blessed at the Church of Tango.

The journey, and the writing of it, took place over a period of thirteen years and through several countries. I hoped my readers would be encouraged by my challenges and sufferings; that it's not necessary to give up on life because your beloved partner of many years dies, or because you yourself get cancer--two times, or because you lose your home and cherished belongings, or because your endearing parent dies slowly from Alzheimer's, or because your son joins a cult, or because the people you thought were your friends cheat you for money.

Everyone needs a reason to get up in the morning and carry on. For me, it was to dance, even though I was already middle-aged. I found new cultures, languages, and loves.

Many people ask about the title. Dancing can be sacred. And there is no doubt that the tango can be spiritual, a connection to the universe.

The book's cover includes a painting of my tango shoes in an empty suitcase. The well known Mexican artist, Santiago Corral, painted it for me when I lived in San Miguel de Allende. He understood that with an empty suitcase and my tango shoes, anything and anywhere was possible.

To that end, the locales in the book range from Los Angeles, Paris, Evian-les-Bains, France, San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca, Mexico, Amsterdam, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I lived until July 2014, when I returned to Los Angeles.
